According to GGII data, China's lithium battery copper foil shipments in 2021 were 281,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 124.4%. If lithium batteries continue to use traditional copper foil in the future, it is estimated that 1.25 million tons of copper foil will be needed by 2025, which will put great pressure on copper resource consumption.
If composite copper foil (PET composite copper foil, PP composite copper foil, etc.) is used, copper consumables can be reduced by about 2/3, copper resources can be better saved, and it is also better than traditional copper foil in terms of safety and energy density. According to Mitsuda Mitsuya, the production of PET copper foil faces the following difficulties: , the winding system needs to ensure that the film does not wrinkle or deform during winding and unwinding and operation; second, the temperature control system of the equipment needs to achieve precise temperature control; finally, it is necessary to ensure that the composite copper foil will not be perforated.
In response to this, KOTA Technology adopts magnetron sputtering double-sided coating technology and completes precise control of the PET copper foil production process through modular design. It plans to complete the assembly and debugging of the prototype in early 2023, and it is expected to produce PET copper foil samples in March-April next year.
